Under The Radar

New Music, Old Favorites, Buried Treasures, Imports and Indies. Indie rock [ˈin-dē ˈräk] comes from “independent,” describes the small and relatively low-budget labels on which it is released and the do-it-yourself attitude of the bands and artists involved. Although distribution deals are often struck with major corporate companies, these labels and the bands they host have attempted to retain their autonomy, leaving them free to explore sounds, emotions and subjects of limited appeal to large, mainstream audiences.  Your host Mark Copeland presents music that’s made for the radio, that corporate & commercial radio tends to ignore, direct from the Motor City, Detroit MI! Deep Threes

We mix extended eclectic sets that fuse jazz, rock, modern classical, electronica, world music and more… What songs would you want if you could only download one track per album? Deep Threes is the weekly radio show for the 21st Century digital music collector. “Deep” is a nod to the deep tracks of the past. “Threes” refers to the MP3s that fill up our hard drives. Deep Threes dares to play long pieces that take music beyond boundaries. New releases from indie artists. Underground music from the copyleft. Rediscovered gems from the past. Music with bite, passion and depth. Themes are not chosen – they emerge. They could be a small arc between two songs as the set moves along. Or the set can unravel into a short story told through the mood and lyrics of each song. A Deep Threes mix can float over the clouds in the night sky, or gradually take you across terrain that is radically different than the starting point. Layers of found sounds, spoken words and subtle remixes are there to mark the way points in each excursion. Your destination: an oasis of deep listening and discovery. At the heart of this process is the music. The synergy of math and physics, mechanics and electronics, infused with the human spirit, rising up in a river of feelings alongside all the glistening gems we found along the way. The Deep Threes. Sideways With A Badger

Another bag load of classic tracks from the fifties to the naughties!  Retro [ˈre-(ˌ)trō] derives from the Latin prefix retro, meaning “backwards, or in past times” – particularly as seen in the words retrograde, implying a movement toward the past instead of a progress toward the future, and retrospective, referring to a nostalgic (or critical) eye toward the past. Style that is consciously derivative or imitative of trends, modes, fashions, or attitudes of the recent past. It generally implies a vintage of at least fifteen or twenty years.  Each week, Chris Munday delivers another ‘dose’ of his world-famous show of Retro, Punk, New Wave, Blues & Glam rock. Blowing the dust of the vinyl, cassette & 8-tracks he brings you some of the classic tracks you’d forgotten that you loved. The concept for the show is simple, it’s all about raiding the 20th Century, looking for those tracks that you’d forgotten that you’s loved and on the way taking time out to take a look at the roots of the music and rock pedigrees that made them possible!
