Gee whiz, it’s the “G” show – the latest episode of Brainwaves A to Z where every artist on this week’s show starts with the letter G. Starting with a punk rock flashback to Gang of Four. Plus so much more: Guards, Guster, Gomez, Garbage, Grandaddy, Grouplove, Good Old War and the Garys – Valentine, Numan and Glitter (that’s two Gs!). Oh, the first ever Brainwaves airing of a Grateful Dead song (but as a cover by Mumford and Sons).
This week on Brainwaves, the swamp animals get to rock out. With some music about crocodiles and alligators from Neil Cicierega, Echo and the Bunnymen, R.E.M., Tilly and the Wall and The Beach Boys. Then we head to a party hosted by Regina Spektor and Matt Pond PA. (But who invite the Bay City Rollers?)
It’s that week: time for the annual Jacob’s Ladder indie, folk, blues and country music festival in Israel. So this week Brainwaves looks back at some previous festivals. With only-on-Brainwaves music from Red Sun Project, Tal Cohen Shalev, Erez Singer and the Abrams. Plus a set of monkey music from Jonathan Coulton, Counting Crows, the Beatles, the Dickies and, yes, the Monkees.
Every few weeks, Brian goes through his music collection alphabetically. This week, Brainwaves is up to the Fs – all bands or songs starting with the sixth letter of the alphabet. Music from 5 decades of eclectic alternative indie pop including double plays from the Feelies and the Flaming Lips, plus Forest, Fuel, Feist, Field Music, Field Mice, Flash, Focus, Fotomaker, Franz Ferdinand and more.
Israel celebrates its 70th birthday this week, so Brainwaves is doing a special episode with just music out of the Holy Land. Some in Hebrew, some in English. Classic bands like Kaveret and Mashina, newer bands such as Forest and Elai Botzer, and everything in-between. 2 hours of eclectic alternative indie pop you won’t hear anywhere else!
