It was my birthday two weeks ago, but I can’t seem to stop celebrating. So here’s another Brainwaves “birthday” special” with five birthday songs to sing along to – from the Beatles, Altered Images, Kings of Leon, Ex Cops and String Theory. Does that make you happy? K’s Choice is delighted, but the Vapors want to wait for the weekend (as do the Neon Trees and the Super Furry Animals). And we end with a little “silence” from the Dickies, Thomas Dolby and the Goo Goo Dolls.

We’re in the middle of the Jewish New Year – a month of holidays with apples, honey and pomegranates. So Brainwaves presents some tunes for a new beginning – from Azure Ray, Camera Obscura, Spirit of the West and Idan Raichel. Plus music to drive home to from Pearl Harbor and the Explosions, Steven Wilson, Madness, R.E.M., Arco and Neil Halstead. And if that’s not enough, there’s a “yellow” set on this week’s show too with music from Christie, Elton John, Coldplay, Of Monsters and Men, 20/20 and the Cranberries.

It’s Brainwaves’ host Brian’s birthday this week. Let’s wish him a big mazel tov. And tune in for great music from Imagine Dragons, Arcade Fire, Feist, Tom Petty, Good Old War, Pere Ubu, Josh Pyke, Jim Yoshi, Mike Oldfield, Redeye and much more. How old is Brian? You’ll have to tune in to find out…

On the last days of August, let’s bring it home with a cover of the Phillip Phillips’ song “Home.” Plus bubblegum pop from Annemarie. Punk from Nina Hagen and the Tubes. Progressive rock from ELO and Pink Floyd. Some trance to dance to from Antiquex. And a bit of “loud radio” from Israeli rockers Tislam. It’s all on this week’s Brainwaves.

rainwaves favorite Juliana Hatfield is back with three songs to kick off this week’s show, including a cover of another Brainwaves fave, Pete Yorn. Plus music from The Monochrome Set, Kodaline, Wake Owl, Joy vision, Elbow, Grandaddy, Timmy Thomas, the Lemonheads, the Old 97s and much, much more.

rainwaves A to Z is back with the “V” show – two hours of bands and songs starting with the letter “V.” You’ll hear music from Visage, the Vapors, Vampire Weekend, the Voices, Voice of the Beehive and the Village People. Plus “V” songs from Teenage Fanclub, the Doves, Nada Surf, Genesis, the Weakerthans and so much more. “V” stands for the VERY best music. Don’t miss this show!

Don’t worry, Brainwaves isn’t saying goodbye. Just some “goodbye” songs on this week’s show, from Steam, Lobo, Squeeze, Supertramp, Jeff Buckley and the Bats. Plus Blackfield says “Hello.” A double play of obscure Genesis and double Beats – but not the same band. It’s all coming up this week on Brainwaves.

rainwaves. Plus some beach music from Blotto and Queen. Rosi Golan wants to shine, Mission of Burma wants to fight and OMD just wants a souvenir. Come collect yours on this week’s Brainwaves.

Brainwaves takes you to the countryside with some not-quite-country music on this week’s show. From Wake Owl, Three Dog Night, Pete Yorn, Big Star, Blitzen Trapper, R.E.M. and Lovedrug. Plus we get on a plane with Juliana Hatfield, the Screaming Jets, the Teardrop Explodes and Matt Pond PA. Tune in and get ready to take off!

Brian was just in California for a couple weeks. To mark the visit, a summer show with a whole bunch of “California” songs. From the likes of Phantom Planet, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Novi Split, the Gin Blossoms, Tripsitter, R.E.M., Led Zeppelin, Beach Boys, the Decemberists, America and of course the Californias! Music from the left coast on this week’s Brainwaves.

Did Owl City rip off Marshall Crenshaw? You be the judge on this week’s show. Compare and contrast the theme song to the animated flick “Wreck it Ralph” with “Whenever You’re on My Mind” from 1983. Plus a “cloud” set with music from Cloud Cult, Cloud Room, A.C. Newman, Teenage Fanclub, the Rolling Stones and the Bangles.

Songs about bridges on this week’s Brainwaves from Rose Melberg, Boy and Bear, the Mike Curb Congregation and Pink Floyd. Ben Folds and the Magnetic Fields get lucky. Imagine Dragons head to Amsterdam. And Nik Kershaw says, “Hello World.” All this and more on this week’s Brainwaves.

Brainwaves isn’t fooling around this week. We kick off the show with three songs from German pop favorites Fool’s Garden. Then it’s off the Canada for some Martha and the Muffins, Ireland for Flogging Molly, U2 and the Cranberries, Israel for Red Meadow and Hemi Rudner, and the USA for some punk rock nostalgia from the Ramones, the Dead Kennedys and the Dickies.

June 21 is the official start of summer – at least in many parts of the world. So Brainwaves is celebrating summer with an all-summer music set. That’s right, every song on the show has “summer” in the title. Sounds Under Radio, Blitzen Trapper, The Decemberists, Matt Pond PA Wiretrain, Mungo Jerry, ELO, Vanity Fair and a bonus track from the summer queen: Donna Summer.

This week on Brainwaves, a set of “need” songs and then one about animals. Because who doesn’t need a comfort pet during a pandemic? Need music from Edie Carey, Elton John, America and Ed Sheeran. Animal songs from Pink Floyd, Neon Trees, Shy Nobleman and Grandaddy. Two hours of eclectic alternative radio.

Cheap Star rules! One of Brainwaves’ favorite bands kicks off this week’s show. Plus Cheap Star influences: Teenage Fanclub, the Posies, Nada Surf and Ken Stringfellow. Then get set for a trip around the solar system with music about Venus, Jupiter, Saturn and Neptune from Paul McCartney, Train, Blackfield, M. Ward and R.E.M.

Sometimes you just wanna hear the music and not the DJ. So this week on Brainwaves, it’s a “more music less talk” episode. Music from Lush, the Cure, Phillip Glass, the Polyphonic Spree, Dubstar, ELO, Azure Ray and much more. Don’t hang the DJ, just leave him alone!

One last look back at the now-defunct spring edition of the Jacob’s Ladder music festival in Israel, for a decade our favorite weekend of the year. Israeli indie music on this week’s episode from Old Man River, Maya Johanna, Jane Bordeaux and Lola Marsh. Plus two more Lolas from The Stills and The Kinks. And don’t miss our fish set with music from Radiohead, Elton John, Sun Kil Moon, New Musik, Blitzen Trapper and Brainwaves favorites Nada Surf!

On the 25th anniversary of the death pf Kevin Gilbert, Brainwaves remembers the talented pop/progressive rocker who left us at just 29 years old. Music from Gilbert’s bands Toy Matinee and Giraffe plus two solo tunes. Then it’s a “mother” set for Mother’s Day (OK, that was last week) including The Durutti Column, Peter Gabriel, Kaki King, Natalie Merchant, Sparks, Daft Punk, Paul Simon and more.

It’s part 3 of Brainwaves’ special look back at the now-defunct spring Jacob’s Ladder music festival. (Never fear, the winter version is still happening, so there will still be exposure to great Israeli indie pop on Brainwaves to come.) On this week’s show, Judy Antebi, Dorin Yanini, Nefesh Mountain and Mika Sade (channeling the trills of Minnie Riperton). Plus music from Slowdive, Grandaddy, Juliana Hatfield, the Abrams, TV21, TV on the Radio and the Tubes.
